How much time could my dad go to jaik for slapping my mom?

So on Saturday there was a party and I was home only my parents were there and they had a bad discussion while they were coming home (my mom told me) and my dad slapped my mom. Well I know this is wrong but I must to admit that my mom is really very annoying at times. When she was home she called the police because of this and my dad got arrested, today I paid $5000 and he is free for now, but he must go to court on july 7. What is the worst thing that could happen to him? I heard he could go 1 year to jail and pay a $50000 fine. Please help me if you know about this, is this true? My dad would never kill my mom or someone and to pay $50000 is a lot for me I don't own that much money and my mom won't pay a penny for him
